What happened to Sora
100xFounder reports that OpenAI launched Sora 2 and the Sora app on September 30, 2025, said on March 24, 2026 that it was closing it, closed the app on April 26, 2026, and removed the Videos API and all Sora 2 models on September 24, 2026. The lesson: keep your prompts and source files so you can switch tools.
Google: Veo, Omni and Vids
Google's AI Plus plan ($4.99) includes Google Flow credits with access to Gemini Omni Flash, and AI Pro ($19.99) includes 1,000 Flow credits, per Google's subscriptions page. Developers can use Veo 3.1 through the Gemini API, from $0.05 a second for Veo 3.1 Lite at 720p, per 100xFounder.
Runway
Runway's Gen-4.5 sits on a $15/month Standard plan ($12 billed yearly). Runway's own API pricing page lists per-second API pricing for developers. Runway doesn't restrict commercial use but may train on outputs.
Kling and Pika
Kling 3.0 is current and 4.0 is in early access. Its general terms require written permission and a Kling label for commercial use, which matters for client work. Pika's Starter plan is $10/month; commercial use starts at the $35 Creator plan.
Avatar tools: Synthesia and HeyGen
Both start at $29/month. They are built for training, sales and explainer videos with a presenter. HeyGen's $49 Pro plan adds 4K export; Synthesia's Pro gives about an hour of video a month, per 100xFounder.
Which to pick

| Talking-head training videos | Synthesia or HeyGen |
| Zero budget | Google Vids |
| Client work | Confirm commercial rights first |
Rules to know
100xFounder notes that Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires machine-readable marking of synthetic media, with 2 August 2026 listed as the application date, and that the US Copyright Office concluded in January 2025 that prompts alone don't make someone the author of AI output. Never use someone's face or voice without written permission.
AI plan terms, explained
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Usage limit | How much you can use a tool before it slows you down or asks you to wait; often reset every few hours or weekly |
| Context window | How much text the model can consider at once, measured in tokens (roughly three-quarters of a word each) |
| Tokens | The small chunks of text AI models read and write |
| Agent | An AI that carries out multi-step tasks, such as browsing or editing files, rather than only answering |
| API credits | Prepaid money for developers to call a model from their own apps |
| Seat | One paid user on a team plan |
| Annual billing | Paying for a year up front, usually at a lower monthly rate |
How we keep this comparison fair
We don't accept payment from AI companies for placement, and we don't rank tools on output quality unless we have actually run a documented test. Every price and feature in this article comes from a page we opened on the date shown at the top, and we link each one in the sources list so you can check it yourself. AI plans change quickly: new models arrive every few months, limits change and prices move. When they do, we update the tables and the date. If you see something out of date, tell us in the comments.
Bottom line
AI video in 2026 is cheaper and more capable than ever, but the market moves fast, as Sora's shutdown showed. Choose by the job: cinematic clips, app integration or presenter videos. Check commercial rights before client work, and keep copies of your prompts and source files so you can move tools if you need to. Compare seconds of output, not just monthly prices, because credits and per-second rates differ widely between tools.
Before you subscribe: cancellation and billing tips
Set a calendar reminder a few days before any renewal date, especially after a free trial or a discounted first month. Cancellation rules differ by company; xAI, for example, says you should cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid another charge. If you pay through an app store, you usually cancel there, not on the company's website. Keep receipts in one email folder so you can see what you pay for at a glance. Prices on most official pages exclude sales tax or VAT, so your card statement may show a slightly higher amount than the list price. If you travel or live outside the US, the price at checkout in your country is the one that applies; OpenAI, for example, bills in US dollars in many countries with local-currency billing only in some.
